Maybe a year or a little better after my mother came to live with me, I got a promotion at work and began working in Rome, Ga. We moved to Rome in a duplex apartment. It was a fresh start for us. Things were moving in the right direction. Mother’s health was improving and her mental quality.
Some months after moving I met the love of my life, Rick. My life would never be the same. He was a handsome loving man, nine years my senior. He had three sons, the oldest of which he had custody. We met and never parted ways from the first night we spoke. It was an amazing journey to say the least.
It wasn’t long before Rick and Alan his son moved into the apartment with mother and I. We became a little family. Alan was a sweetheart. Mother continued to improve daily and Rick and Alan’s presence helped mother. There love for me and mother transformed us. We all grew in many ways. Looking back it was such a transformational time.
We should savor our memories more. I wish I was doing journaling during this time. Thinking back there were so many good memories in such a short period. I would tell you never take a day for granted. Treasure the ones close to your heart. I was in my early twenties and still such a child really. Rick was a mentor, teacher, father figure, lover, and my soulmate.
