THE BOYS AND CHOCOLATE OATMEAL COOKIES

Updated: Apr 17, 2022

Gosh when I try to think of what comes next with the boys and Rick and I it is difficult to put things in order. I know it was on August 11, 1990 that Rick and I got married so I will do my best to go back and pull things from my memories. Definitely not sure I can get them all in chronological order.

The first thing that jumps out is the time Brandon wanted a pet snake for Christmas. Well, guess who had wanted one too but didn’t get it, Rick. So you know Brandon got his. Can you believe I helped Rick shop for it. Oh my I even held a few. Snakes are like dogs in that they know when you are nervous. So guess who was bitten by a constricting ball python. Yes, it was me. Oh and guess who chased the neighbors daughter with a snake. Brandon did. I think he even chased her once with a pocket knife he had gotten. Now mind you he wasn’t being mean when he was doing these things. He was being a boy. You guessed it I am sure. He had a crush on the young girl. That’s boys for you. I like her let’s chase her with my snake and then my knife surely she will like me now, not!!! Kids are too funny!

So many memories, like Alan’s chocolate oatmeal cookies. Rick’s mom, Ruth had helped with Alan after Rick and Katie got a divorce. Rick had custody of Alan from day one. Well Ruth taught Alan how to make her family famous chocolate oatmeal cookies. I loved those evenings after work and I had cooked dinner. Alan would make us a batch. They were always just perfect never too runny. We would usually begin eating them before they got set. I wish we were able to go back for just one of those nights where everything was bliss and Rick was alive and we all were a family eating a batch of those cookies.
